a poem by Roger B Rueda
For Janette and Roque
The bougainvillaeas bloom
all through the summer,
their inflorescences huge,
sharing oodles of splendour.
The roses are in bud,
all set to spread out their blazes
of colour, the sun blazing down,
some leaves turning yellow.
The hibiscuses are wilting,
a mound of withered leaves beneath.
